Missions

New Day, Inc...

We believe in the mission of New Day... a mission to at-risk youth and their families located in Johnstown and Windber, PA. New Day has been ministering and bringing these youth to Christ for over 36 years. Many in our congregation support this worthy organization and a number of special offerings are taken frequently to support it. We also participate in the Christmas Wrapping Fundraiser for New Day during December at the Galleria shopping center. Contact Dave if you want to help with this worthwhile project.

Camp Harmony...

Berkey Church financially supports children in the church who wish to attend this Church of the Brethren camp near Hooversville, PA. The camp runs Christian programs year round for attendees to enrich their spiritual lives in a rustic setting.

Do you have pics from the Kentucky mission trips. Send a pic to dave@berkeycob.org
and we'll post it here.

Honduras...

Some of our Youth and adults have frequently been called to follow Christ to Emanuel Children's Home in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. They return completely changed and motivated to serve Christ in their lives. What a blessing to hear their stories upon return! Just like the Youth, the adults who accompany them are changed forever too.

Kentucky...

For more than a decade, a team of youth and adults from Berkey have spent a week in Lost Creek, Kentucky. The group does maintenance for Riverside Christian School during the days. Each evening a Vacation Bible School is held at Caney Creek Mennonite Church for the kids of the holler. The gifts the group brings to them are not equal to the changes that happen to the team members as they get to serve God there.

George and Cindy Swain (Daniel too!)...

George and Cindy and their family have been in the Czech Republic as missionaries for the past 20 or so years. In a country that is still largely atheist because of its communist history, George and Cindy minister faithfully to a body of Christian believers in Prague. Berkey supports them through their sponsoring organization.

Brethren Home Community...

This home for the elderly is well-known in the Johnstown area for serving the needs of this age group. Its focus is Christian care. It is open to members of all faiths, but clearly emphasizes its Christian heritage. Berkey supports its programs with volunteers and financial assistance during the year.

Dr. Fred and Janet Beam...

Dr. Fred and his wife are retired from missionary service but they both still enjoy preaching and teaching about God's creations. Fred has a background in the study of insects. Each time he visits Berkey he astounds us with his knowledge and his collection of some of the wierdest insects God ever created. And yes, you heard right folks... Fred even eats some of them and gets willing participants to join him. UGH! Hungry yet? Fred always has an inspiring story related to his travels that demonstrates how marvelous is God's creation. Watch this site for announcements about the Beam's next visit. Email: fred.beam@aimint.net

Operation Christmas Child

Build a shoebox for a needy child overseas. It is fun and a great blessing to needy children at Christmas. The program is sponsored by Samaritan's Purse, a Billy Graham organization. Details are available from the link above.
